Berwick Sound Walk with Chris Watson
Sat 25 April 2015
Chris Watson is one of the world’s most acclaimed wildlife sound recordists. During the Sound Strata exhibition tour he led three different coastal sound walks in response to the venue locations and Nicholas Wood’s diagram, the first of which was in the environs of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The sound walks encouraged people to listen to, not just to hear, each unique coastal environment.
Chris Watson is a sound recordist specialising in natural history, with a particular and passionate interest in recording the wildlife sounds of animals, habitats and atmospheres from around the world. Watson's sound recording career began in 1981 when he joined Tyne Tees Television. He has released many solo albums of field recordings on Touch records including: Outside the Circle of Fire, Stepping into the Dark and Weather Report.
His work as a BBC sound recordist includes the major David Attenborough television programmes The Life of Birds (1998) and The Life of Mammals (2001/2). In 2006 he was awarded an honorary doctorate “in recognition of his outstanding contribution to sound recording technology, especially in the field of natural history and documentary location sound”.
